Three Unique Study Programs Ven. Geshe Kelsang has designed special study programs to help us gain a complete understanding of Buddha’s teachings and confidence in our abilities to practice them in our daily lives. These programs allow everyone, whatever their situation, to learn about Buddhist thought and meditation at their own pace and level of commitment. The General Program (GP) provides a basic introduction to Buddhist view, meditation, and practice that is suitable for beginners. The General Program includes introductory meditation classes as well as retreats, empowerments, and workshops. The Foundation Program (FP) enables students to deepen their understanding and experience of Buddhism through an extensive and practical study of six of Geshe Kelsang’s commentaries. Students are asked to commit to one term of study at a time. Over a period of several years, the program covers all of the essential topics within Kadampa Buddhism. The Teacher Training Program (TTP) is for those wishing to train as authentic NKT Dharma Teachers. It involves studying fourteen of Geshe Kelsang’s commentaries over a period of many years, leading a pure and compassionate lifestyle, and completing a number of meditation retreats. TTP is not currently available at Kalinga Buddhist Center. These three programs form the core of the New Kadampa Tradition. They provide an opportunity for everyone, lay and ordained, to attain Dharma realizations while leading a modern lifestyle. |
